Hasta Nakshatra
Hasta
is ruled by Savitar, the creative, inspirational and transformative form of
the Sun God. Its power is the ability to gain what we are seeking and place
it in our own hands (hasta sthapaniya agama shakti). Its basis above is the
seeking of gain. Its basis below is the process of gaining. These together
place what one wishes to gain in ones own hands. Hasta gives the ability to achieve our goals in a complete and immediate manner. Such goals are usually creative in nature. Savitar is the creative will that builds up the universe with all of its beauty. His productions are most wonderful. The indications here are that our own creative efforts will have great success under the influence of this Nakshatra. We should choose a high aspiration accordingly. For example, Savitar also directs and inspires the practice of Yoga and the path to enlightenment. |
Savitar desired, “May the Gods place their faith in me.” One who makes the appropriate offering to Savitar, to Hasta (10 00 – 23 20 Virgo), men place faith in him. He becomes the Sun among his peers. People born under Hasta want to be believed in and want others to have faith in them. They regard themselves as capable of great achievements and can serve to rally and inspire people around them. Savitar is the solar deity of inspiration and the Gayatri mantra, much like Apollo of the Greeks. |
The symbol for this nakshatra is the palm of the hand. The
primary deity is Savitar, the Sun God, who promotes creativity. He is called
“the golden handed one”. The shakti of Hasta is “the power to manifest what
one seeks and place it in their hands”. Hasta natives can have great
dexterity and are skilled with the healing arts, and with handicrafts. Hasta
is ruled by the Moon, and in the sign of Virgo, ruled by Mercury, reflecting
the very mental, intellectual nature of this lunar mansion. It has a deva
temperament with a primary motivation of moksha, or spiritual
liberation. Hasta Career Interests: Craftsmen, artists and painters. Scholars, teachers, comedians, performers and writers. Hospital and volunteer work, public relations. Advisors, ministers, counselors and psychotherapists. Astrologers, palm readers, healers. Sales, communications and networking skills. Travel industry, conference planners. Hasta is formed by five stars (fingers) in the constellation of Corvus, the crow |
The hand symbolizes skill with the hands, as in craftsmanship and the arts. They may use their hands for healing, possibly as a doctor or massage therapist. They can be a comedian with their great clever wit, and good sense of humor. They are entertaining and good speakers. Their early life may be plagued by hardships restraints and possible impediments. The fist indicates an ability to grasp ideas, and hold on to things material or spiritual. Sometimes it is hard for them to let go. The crafty hand can indicate a thief, as well as a pickpocket, for they may be plagued by poverty or lack of success, until they focus on the spiritual path. There is an innate desire to be helpful and serve, as in a counseling profession. They are highly intelligent, attracted to mysticism, possibly palmistry being their specialty. |

Hasta
Nakshatra - Ruled by Moon
Hasta
Nakshatra in the Vimshottari Nakshatra Dasa (120 Year Cycle of Timing of Events)
system introduced by Rishi Parashara is associated with planet Moon. This association
with Moon is only relevant with the Vimshottari based Nakshatra Dasa system and
Moon doesn't rule this Nakshatra as is believed and understood misinterpreted in
many of the later texts on Nakshatras. The Nakshatras are ruled by the Devatas
(Tutelary Archetypes or Principal Deities). Other Nakshatra based dasa systems
given by Rishis Parashara have been associated with other planets that influence
this nakshatra and this has to be used judiciously only for studying and
intepreting
the underlying scheme of Dasa. Study of the Vimshottari Dasa with this
Nakshatra we base the association of Moon with the Karakas (significations)
of Moon which includes and not limited to: Emotions, Mother, Water Related,
Mind, Flower, Dwijatwam (Thread Ceremony), Happiness from Mother, Clothes,
Agriculture, Money, Cows, Milk and Allied Products, Cereals and Grains,
Precious Stones and Shells Obtained from The Sea-Bed Or River, Pearls, Royal/
Kingly Life, White Umbrella Denoting Honour, Dignified Paraphernalia,
Nobility, Liquids, Fruits, Land, Luster, Contentment, Perfume. Moon is also
associated with Lord Sri Krishna among the Dasa Avataars (10 Incarnations) of
Vishnu. Moon is also been referred
to as Annamaya, Atmamaya, Indu, Kshuparaka, Rajanipati, Soma.

(12) Surya. All the attributes these names etymologically connote are caused by
this star. From the Surya we derive creativity and creation, and from creation
we derive light, lustre, and strength. Surya or Savitur is the prime cause of
dominion, kingship, power of immunity and the light that dispels darkness.
The
deity that is presiding over Hasta is a solar deity named “Savitur”. Savitur has
a jovial, light-hearted type of persona. He is always portrayed with a laughing
gesture. This makes Hasta interested in all kinds of sports on all planes of
existence. On the terrestrial earthly plane, Hasta relates to both mind games and
physical sports.
Savitur
is supposedly to be extremely skilled with his hands. This makes Hasta directly
associated with everything done with the hands. The reasoning behind the naming
of Hasta should now be clear to us. Savitur is also considered to be a crafty
trickster, gambler and fraudster. In the ancient times, all kings (represented
by Sun) were supposed to be well versed in the arts of lying, deceit, fraud,
gambling and even robbery.
Hasta

Astrology.
The hand also simply relates to all activities done with the use of the hands.
In ancient times the outstretched hand was a symbol of the Sun, with the fingers
representing its rays. The relationship of this nakshatra with the Sun is established
through its ruling deity.
In a
way, the nature and functioning of Savitur is akin to a bright Sunny day where
everyone is feeling good and are involved in creative activities of all kinds. This
is what makes Hasta one of the most optimistic and creative nakshatras.
In
the universal scheme of things, Hasta relates to Hasta Sthapaniyaagama Shakti –
the power to put one’s object of desire in one’s hands. The symbolism makes it
clear beyond words that Hasta promises immediate acquirement of one’s object of
desire through one’s skill.
This
star relates to both Mind-games and Physical Sports. Persons born in this are
famous, religious, respects Brahmins, clever, learned and wealthy. They know
how to win over the other party. They carry out responsibilities assigned to them
with sincere efforts. When

face. They have mischievous smiles and like to squint a lot.

The
Story of Mahishasura
According
to Hindu mythology, Mahishasura was a combination of both an Asura and a Mahisha
(Water buffalo) with a
trident. He intended to annihilate all the Devas since they were the
arch-enemies of Asuras. The legend of Mahishasura is important in Hindu
mythology since the goddess Durga was incarnated in order to slay him.
Buffalo signifies Tamoguna(laziness, lethargy, ignorance, inertia) – We have to
destroy these qualities within ourselves(mind) to triumph in life! The story of
Durga(Shakti, power) and Mahisha signifies the destruction of tamoguna within
us! And this is a notable battle in the life of Hasta natives! In the story –
Mahishasura became so powerful that he started controlling the Gods. The Gods
came together and created the powerful Goddess Durga to destroy the demon. So
this also indicates that we should keep our ego and arrogance in check, and can
seek the blessings of Goddess Durga to defeat our inner demons(ego, arrogance,
lethargy).
